Hey there hot dog guys and hot dog girls. It is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and several people were wondering if I was going to do a Turkey Dog. To which I reply,"WHY THE HELL WOULD I DO THAT?" #1) Turkey dogs are usually (man I wanna say crap right here) not that good. I have Pheasant. Pheasant brats good...turkey dogs, not so much. #2) Are you not getting Turkey on Thursday? Did you need a lil warm up period? Some tummy stretching with a turkey product? Well, sorry. No turkey at my hot dog cart tomorrow. We will have some of that excellent Alaskan Italian sausage. The same guys that make my reindeer sausage make arguably the best Italian anywhere. Not too hot, not too sweet. This is one really good brat.
I thought I would also bring out the very German 2 pack. Nuerenbergers. These are a skinny (8-1) brat. This means there are 8 to a pound. Or an 1/8 lb brat. Since most of my brats are 4 to 1's, you get 2 of these. The Nuernberger is mild and herby and down right delicious.
I am also bringing out the other skinny 8-1 German brat, the Emmentaller. This brat is more coarsely ground with garlic and paprika. It is very flavorful with a nice lil tang. What is great about these brats are that not only are they great on their own, we really dig doing a mix and match. A Nuern and an Emmantaller together on a roll put something very cool...in your mouth. (a little homage to the original Iron Chef...used to be a drinking game I can explain better in person. You kind of need the accent.)
We will also have the aforementioned pheasant. Diced with spinach, parmesan cheese and a wee bit on cayenne pepper, this makes even the idea of a stupid turkey brat sound...well, stupid.
And of course we'll have everything else as well. Your elk, sure. Reindeer, you bet. Wild boar, if you ask nice I'll bring some for you.
Okay, then. Oh yeah, we won't be at 17th and California this week. The holiday is taking its toll on the Biker Jim workforce. So if'n you're wanting a non turkey stomach stretching warm up before Thursday, I hope to see you on the street. But be sure to come to 16th and Arapahoe.
Thanks,
Jim
